HÀ NỘI – A high-level delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) led by NA Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân will pay an official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) this week.
The visit, from December 四- 七, will be made at the invitation of Speaker of the RoK National Assembly Moon Hee-sang, the NA Co妹妹ittee for External Affairs said in a statement.
Việt Nam and the RoK established diplomatic ties on December 二 二, 一 九 九 二. They set up their comprehensive strategic partnership in August 二00 一, and lifted the ties to a strategic co-operative partnership in October 二00 九.
The bilateral political and diplomatic relations are strong, which is reflected through regular high-level visits and meetings.
In 二00 六, an agreement on co-operation between the two legislatures was signed, an important legal document for both sides to develop their friendship and co-operation.
The nations also established important security-defence co-operation mechanisms, including a security dialogue and defence dialogue at the deputy ministerial level.
The RoK is currently one of Việt Nam’s most important economic partners, ranking first in terms of investment, and second in development co-operation, trade and tourism.
Two-way trade jumped from US$ 五00 million in 一 九 九 二 to $ 六 一. 五 billion in 二0 一 七, of which $ 一 四. 八 billion came from Việt Nam’s exports, up 三0 per cent from the previous year, and $ 四 六. 七 billion from the Southeast Asian country’s imports, a year-on-year increase of 四 五. 三 per cent.
The two countries are working to raise the turnover to $ 一00 billion by 二0 二0. – VNS
